Our package price does not include domestic airfare, but we can and do pre-purchase all domestic transportation for no less than 95% of our clients at superb rates. These rates are subject to variation during the seasons so please feel free to contact us in order to give you a quote for all the domestic transport you’ll need on your trip.
We do not usually purchase international airfare for our clients but can and often do so if requested. Generally we recommend purchasing international airfare through internet web-based companies
You may contact us to arrange your domestic flights. We offer very competitive rates and pre-purchase all domestic transportation for 95% of our clients. You may also purchase domestic airfare through the Internet.
Our clients are recommended to use cash. Credit/Debit should only be used to withdraw money. ATMs are widely distributed throughout most Latin American countries and are a quick and easy way to get cash.
Tipping is not included. Peru in general is inclined to tip very little if they leave a tip at all. We at Peru Vacation Tours are inclined to follow a more liberal approach and feel that you should tip according to how well you were served.
U.S. dollars are widely accepted in most locations and currency exchange bureaus are easy to find. Travelers Checks tend to receive much lower exchange rates than U.S. Dollars, meaning you lose money in the exchange. Travelers Checks are also not accepted in many places.
We suggest that you purchase travel insurance to cover you during your travel, particularly for your own peace of mind. We recommend www.travelguard.com which covers international flights and gives an entire health care package.
There is no vaccination required unless you are traveling into the jungle, in which case you may need to be vaccinated against yellow fever. Of course clients are always advised to check with their local physicians the different cautions/vaccinations they should take for each destination (this will vary depending upon the nationality of the passenger).
Altitude sickness is a common problem for visitors to Peru. Coca tea is easily available and a big helper, although it does not work for everyone. Diamox is commonly used by visitors from the US and is a recommended product to use as are Sorochi or Grovol, both of which can be purchased over-the-counter upon arrival in most airports. We also recommend eating light meals for the first day and avoiding strenuous physical activities until you are acclimatized.
While traveling in the Andes you can expect highs of 70°s Fahrenheit and lows of 30°s (mostly during the nights and early mornings). The solution is to dress in layers. Jeans, a T-shirt and a pullover should be fine during the day. At night you can keep yourself warm with some locally bought alpaca sweaters, mittens and "chuyos" (sock-hats).
We highly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in many places. Please keep in mind that you will have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and up and down staircases most of the time.
If you wish to take an optional excursion all you need do is contact us and we will arrange it. If you know of any excursions in any of the South American countries (Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador) that are not published on our website – let your Sales Rep know and we’ll get you on that tour.
All the hotels have private bathrooms, clean facilities, charming architecture, single and double beds, friendly and efficient staff (this really makes a big difference), and of course good locations. Most of our hotel rooms also have a telephone and cable TV with major international networks.
Where stated in the itinerary, meals are included. We at Peru Vacation Tours prefer to give our clients the option to choose where they would prefer to eat. Peruvian cuisine is fantastic and the restaurants offer great value. We will be more than glad to give you a list of our personal favorites.
Airport taxes are not included in into the price of the package and neither are they included into the price of the ticket if flying out of or around Peru. The Peruvian airport requires that every person pay a departure tax upon leaving the airport. The cost of the departure taxes are:
International Departure Tax: $30.25 US
Domestic Departure Tax: $6.05 US
Please note that these prices are subject to change.
Besides the airport taxes, only Peruvian Nationals and foreigner’s living in Peru with residence permits need to pay IGV additional hotel taxes. In order to avoid these additional Hotel taxes, make sure your passport has a valid entry visa for at least 60 days, an official migration stamp, and an Andina Migration Card with Stamp. All of these things will be issued to tourists upon arrival to the country. If you are unable to present any one of the above requirements, you may be charged an additional 19% IGV tax for you hotel.
