Coronavirus Travel Update

Firstly, we want you to know that our hearts go out to all that have been affected by the Coronavirus. We are and will continue to do everything in our power to help our customers through this time.

All tours departing before July 31, 2020 suspended due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The last few weeks have been incredibly difficult for everyone due to the COVID-19 situation around the world and it has brought travel to a standstill. Peru Vacation Tours has made the very difficult but necessary decision to suspend all tours departing before July 31, 2020, due to the fast-evolving travel restrictions being implemented across South America. This provides travellers with assurance and the flexibility to postpone their trip to be enjoyed fully at a later date up until December 31, 2021.


If you have a booked trip during this suspension period, please rest assured that you can change the dates of your vacation, to travel before 31 December, 2021. We will manage this whole process for you.

The updated policies are aligned with the current travel industry standards and advice given by governmental institutions.

Q. I am currently on my tour. What do I do?

A. We are pleased to say that all of our customers that were stuck in a country with a lockdown, have now returned back home safely. Please follow up with your travel insurer and/or airlines regarding any extra charges incurred.

Q. My tour has been suspended. What options do I have?

A. If you have paid in full or if you have paid the deposit for your vacation, you will be able to change your dates for free to another date before December 31, 2021.

Once you have the new travel date, please advise your travel adviser and we will make all the necessary changes for you for free(1)

Due to the unfortunate events, Peru Vacation Tours are not offering refunds on suspended tours. Please do not call our contact centre asking for refunds, as unfortunately these cannot be provided. 

Q. My vacation starts after August 1, 2020. What options do I have?

A. All tours, services and flights scheduled from August 1, 2020 are still running as normal. If you have an existing booking on a non-suspended trip departing more than 30 days from today, we are temporarily offering a change fee waiver, meaning that no fee will be charged for you to change your booking, until 30 days prior to departure. Airlines and train operators may have different policies and penalty charges, any and all of which are your responsibility(2).

Q. Can I still book my vacation for a later date?

A. Yes, you can still pay your deposit for travel at a later date. We understand that people are still uncertain about future travel and we don’t want people to lose their love for exploring the beauty of Peru and South America. So for peace of mind, we are offering you the following:

  • For a tour departing prior to December 31, 2020 we will permit you to change your travel date on your confirmed tour services, tour accommodation services, extra services, or transfer services at any time prior to 20 days from the date of tour departure at no charge (3).
  • For a tour departing between January 1, 2021 and May 31, 2021 we will permit you to change your travel date on your confirmed tour services, tour accommodation services, extra services, or transfer services at any time prior to 30 days from the date of tour departure at no charge (3).

(1) There may be a price difference in flight prices between your current and new flight. We will do our best to find a flight ticket with the same price, but this is not guaranteed and customers are responsible for any extra cost.
The current status of the Perurail train operator is that they will change train ticket dates without charge, only if you are travelling before December 31, 2020. If your new travel date is in 2021, we will do our best to get Perurail to change your tickets for free.
Inca Trail, Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu ticket changes may incur charges from the Ministry who sell the tickets if you choose to travel in 2021. There is currently no charge to change your tickets to another date in 2020. Ask your travel adviser for confirmation of this at the time that you request to change your dates.


(2) The customer is responsible for any airline and/or train penalties imposed due to trip changes and/or cancellations. We will do our best to find flight and train tickets with the same price and to get any charges waived.
Inca Trail, Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu ticket changes may incur charges from the Ministry who sells the tickets. Ask your travel adviser for confirmation of this at the time that you request to change your dates.

(3) Airline price changes and fees not included. There may be charges from the airlines depending on the airline policy at the time of cancelation.

Inca Trail permits – if the permit has already been purchased, there may be a fee to change the date from the Ministry of Culture in Peru.

Trains Machu Picchu (Perurail and Inca Rail) – there may be a small charge to change the dates of the train tickets.


Customers are advised to contact their travel insurance companies if they have incurred any extra charges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
