You will be welcomed at Lima airport by a Peru Vacation Tours representative, who will then transfer you in a private vehicle to your selected hotel in Lima.
In the afternoon, you will begin your city tour of Lima, allowing you the opportunity to explore the old and the new Lima on a sightseeing journey. The city tour starts with a visit to the historic Plaza de Armas, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In the center of the Plaza is an elaborate bronze fountain dating from 1560. Also located in the Plaza is the Cathedral, one of the most impressive in all of South America, and next to it is the Archbishop’s Palace.
Then you will visit the 17th-century Monastery of San Francisco, famous for its Sevilian tile work, paneled ceiling, and Spanish catacombs in the basement. You will also visit the most traditional residential areas in Lima: the Olive Grove of the San Isidro district, the Miraflores neighborhood, and Larcomar Shopping Center, all distinctive tourist centers of contemporary Lima.
After the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Overnight in Lima
In the morning, you will be transferred to Lima airport to take your flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival to Cusco city, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to your selected hotel.
In the afternoon, one of our local guides will take you on a half day tour of the city of Cusco. You will be shown the exact center of the Inca Empire, the Plaza de Armas. There one can find the Cathedral built on the ruins of the Inca Palace. Next stop will be the old town with its magnificent renovated colonial buildings. Also in Cusco, we will visit Qorikancha, the Main Temple of the Incas, where Sun God is worshiped.
After, we will visit Sacsayhuaman, a ruins site located approximately 3 kilometers from Cusco. Sacsayhuaman also offers a fabulous view of the entire city. After that, the tour will stop shortly in Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca; Kenko, the giant rock whose niches and gaps were carved in an eccentric way; and Puca Pucara, the ruins of a fort.
Return to Cusco where you can relax, enjoy the local food and exciting nightlife.
Overnight in Cusco
After your breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco by our representative. You will be taken along a road that winds over the mountains north of Cusco. On the way you will stop at a point known as El Mirador, from where we will be able to see the whole of the Sacred Valley and listen to the history of the Incas.
Later in the day, you will go towards Pisac, where we will visit the Pisac Archaeological Park. Here there are many different buildings, plazas, temples, pools and other structures, all built between the 10th and 11th centuries AD. After we will visit a peculiar market in Pisac. Here, you will have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of fine crafts of various kinds, for example, ponchos, blankets, vases, hats and much more. You will have free time to walk around and do some shopping. Afterwards you will be taken to have lunch in a nice local restaurant to enjoy some great Andean food.
After lunch you will continue the tour and be driven along the Urubamba River towards the town of Ollantaytambo. Here you will visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo, an important Inca construction built during the Inca’s most powerful times.
After the tour you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.
Overnight in Cusco
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and we will head to the Sacred Valley where we will stop for some breakfast if you didn’t manage to have any in your hotel.
After, we will continue to Abra Malaga (14,160 feet above sea level) where we will begin our 3 hour biking tour. During the 55km descent to Huamanmarca, you will be able to sea incredible scenery of snow-capped mountains and the rainforest.
We will continue on to Santa María (3,900 feet above sea level) and here we will have lunch and stay for the night.
In the afternoon, we will go rafting on the Vilcanota River, which has category III and V rapids (only available April to December).
Overnight in Santa Maria
Today is our first day of trekking. After breakfast we will ascend for a couple of hours whilst learning about the rich variety of flora and fauna that we pass. As part of our Responsible Tourism, we will stop at a home of a local family who will show us about their traditions and customs.
After we will carry on and cross a part of the Inca Trail, which connected Machu Picchu to the last Inca hideout, Vicabamba, which was eventually conquered by the Spaniards in 1572.
We will then trek down to a lovely small town called Quellomayo, where we will have lunch. We will continue on to Cocalmayo where we will enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the thermal baths.
After, we will be transported to Santa Teresa and this is where we will stay the night.
Overnight in Santa Teresa
To start of day 3 of the Inca Jungle trek, we will do some exciting zip-lining, which lasts around 2 hours. We will then have some breakfast after which we will be transported to the hydroelectric plant where we will start our trek to Aguas Calientes.
On the way, we will have the opportunity to marvel at the Machu Picchu mountains, Huayna Picchu and other incredible sites.
We will spend the night in Aguas Calientes and prepare for what you have been waiting for, Machu Picchu!
Overnight in Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, you will take one of the buses up the steep mountain to the famous town of Machu Picchu, also known as, the Lost City of the Incas.
You will be taken on an official tour of Machu Picchu to see the most important parts of the Inca city. (Optional: hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. This will allow you to have more time in Machu Picchu).
Machu Picchu is a magical, mysterious place that for nearly a century has intrigued archaeologists and visitors alike. Perched atop a steep, emerald green peak 8,000 feet high in the Andes in southern Peru, it is reachable only by a long road that zigzags up the slope from the roaring Urubamba river, or alternatively, by hiking for days along the challenging Inca Trail. Visitors to Machu Picchu will see well-preserved ruins hidden among the majestic Andes: palaces, baths, temples, tombs, sundials and farming terraces, along with llamas that roam among hundreds of gray granite houses.
Lunch is included in Aguas Calientes (Optional upgrade: lunch in the luxury Belmond Sanctuary Lodge located just outside of Machu Picchu).
In the late afternoon, you will return to Cusco on the Expedition train. On arrival to Cusco, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.
Overnight in Cusco
After breakfast, you will be picked up and transferred from your hotel to Cusco airport to take your flight to Lima and onward to your next destination.
