A question that always seems to circulate among travelers venturing into the city of Machu Picchu is; “so where do we get something to eat?”. Contrary to popular belief, there are restaurants just outside of Machu Picchu. There are two restaurants, which are both located in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge; the only hotel on the actual site of Machu Picchu.
One of these is called the Tampu Restaurant. Here you can enjoy the wonderful view provided by the majestic surroundings and the food here is of a high standard. They specialize in Peruvian dishes, but also boast a wide assortment of international dishes as well. The decorations in the Tampu restaurant are very modern and elegant, giving you a cosy environment to enjoy your meal.
The Tampu restaurant has a maximum capacity of 72 people, the restaurant, as well as the bar area is characterized by the local material, which was used in their designs, such as stones found throughout the area as well as wood from indigenous trees.
Tampu Restaurant hours:
Breakfast: 5.30 a.m. – 9.00 a.m.
Lunch: 12.00 a.m – 3 p.m.
Dinner: 6.30 p.m. – 9.30 p.m.
The bar opens from 7.00 a.m – 10.00 p.m.
The restaurant and buffet Tinkuy has a wide assortment of great dishes for its guests and the visitors that walk in from Machu Picchu. The restaurant has a maximum capacity for 200 people and offers a welcoming atmosphere, areas to relax and delicious food.The buffet offers various Peruvian and international dishes. There are areas to get a main course, salads and desserts; the price includes hot beverages, such as tea or coffee, but it does not include any alcoholic beverages.
Every evening the restaurant exhibits multimedia presentations about Machu Picchu and its beautiful orchids.
The Tinkuy restaurant opens between 11:30 am – 3:00 pm.
