Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Lima

You will be welcomed at Lima airport by our representative who will then transfer you in a private vehicle to your selected hotel in Lima.

You will have the rest of the day to enjoy at your own leisure. If you arrive in Lima early in the morning, then you can do a half day Lima city tour in the afternoon (ask one of our travel advisers for more information).

Day 2Lima to Paracas

At a convenient time in the morning or afternoon (your choice, but recommended that you go earlier, so you can enjoy Paracas), you will be transferred from your hotel to the bus station where you will take a luxury bus (Cruz del Sur) from Lima to Paracas.

On arrival to the bus station in Paracas, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel and you will be free to spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Day 3Ballestas Islands and Paracas National Reserve Tour

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the port where you will take a boat to tour around Peru’s famous Ballestas Islands.

Paracas is a national reserve located in the south of Lima. In there, is located the famous and amazing “Ballestas Islands”, where you will see a lot of beautiful families of sea lions, amazing birdlife and penguins, (yes penguins in a hot weather!) The atmosphere is great, with a wide variety of rocky formations and birds.

After the Ballestas Islands, you will visit the Paracas National Reserve. After entering the Paracas National Reserve, our first stop is Sequion Beach where we will appreciate a great variety of migratory birds. Later, we will arrive at the north of the peninsula where trekking really begins. We will walk along the shores of the peninsula for over 30 minutes, being stunned by the beauty of the cliffs and landscapes. From our position we will be able to see the Ballestas islands, the Chincha islands and Isla Blanca.

Then we will walk inland trough a canyon and will lose the vision of the sea for almost 30 minutes, instead having the chance to admire the beauty of this sub-tropical desert, where the yellow, red and black colours are always present.

Finally, we will notice the San Gallan Island on the horizon, that seems to be floating in space. This fantastic natural spectacle marks the end of this long walk (2:30 hrs).
We take our bus and continue the tour visiting Lagunilla Beach, where we can take a fresh bath and get a delicious lunch (not included).

After the tour, you will be transferred to the bus station to take the bus to Nazca, where on arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 4Nazca Lines Flight Tour

After breakfast you will be transferred to the aerodrome to fly over the amazing Nazca lines.

From up in the plane you will be able to view the spectacular figures that have been etched into the earth. There are over 70 animal and plant drawings and over 300 geometric figures. Some of the drawings represent a monkey, a spider, a hummingbird, an astronaut, a whale and many more. They have been preserved for almost 2000 years, according to specialists.

After the tour, you will be transferred to the bus station to take the overnight bus (reclinable seats) to Arequipa.

Day 5Arequipa City Tour

On your arrival to Arequipa, our representative will welcome you and you will be transferred to your hotel.

In the afternoon, you will begin your Arequipa city tour in the historical center, visiting the Santa Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas, the Jesuit Church of La Compañia and its beautifully-painted Chapel, the Church of San Francisco, the San Lazaro District, Selva Alegre and the typical Districts of Cayma and Yanahuara for a breathtaking view of the Misti Volcano.

After the city tour you will return to your hotel.

Day 62 Day Colca Canyon Tour - Day 1

After breakfast, you will start your trip to the Colca Canyon, taking the Yura’s highway that border the snow-capped mountain Chachani towards Pampa Cañahuas (Reserve of White Wash and Salt Mines); the habitat of the Vicuñas. You will be able to see Alpacas and the flora from this region.

After lunch, you will arrive to Chivay Town and will be transferred to your hotel.

In the evening, you can enjoy a dinner and a dance show with typical Peruvian dances.

Day 72 Day Colca Canyon Tour - Day 2

After an early breakfast, you will visit the “Cross of the Condor”, where you will be able to observe one of the deepest Canyons of the world and where we can appreciate the impressive and majestic flight of the Andean Condors. On the way back to Chivay you will pass through small villages like, Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque.

Buffet lunch is included in Chivay.

After the tour you will be transferred to the station to take the bus to Puno. On arrival to Puno, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

Day 8Lake Titicaca Tour - Uros and Taquile Islands

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Puno in the morning, to take a two-hour motor boat excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating “Islands” of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, have built their own “islands” by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called “Totora”. Their homes and boats are also made from this material.

You will then proceed to Taquile islands, where its inhabitants are dedicated to agriculture and have developed an original form of “communal tourism”, in which visitors share their food, homes, customs and traditions.

Lunch included on Taquile Island.

Return to the hotel.
Overnight in Puno

Day 9 Puno to Cusco Tour

In the morning, you will be transferred to the bus station where you will take the sightseeing bus to Cusco. On the way there, you will have a full day tour and visit Pukara, La Raya, Sicuani (buffet lunch included), Raqchi and Andahuaylillas.

After the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 10Cusco City Tour

In the afternoon, one of our local guides will take you on a half day tour of the city of Cusco. You will be shown the exact center of the Inca Empire, the Plaza de Armas. There one can find the Cathedral built on the ruins of the Inca Palace. Next stop will be the old town with its magnificent renovated colonial buildings. Also in Cusco, we will visit Qorikancha, the Main Temple of the Incas, where Sun God is worshiped.

After, we will visit Sacsayhuaman, a ruins site located approximately 3 kilometers from Cusco. Sacsayhuaman also offers a fabulous view of the entire city. After that, the tour will stop shortly in Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca; Kenko, the giant rock whose niches and gaps were carved in an eccentric way; and Puca Pucara, the ruins of a fort.

Return to Cusco where you can relax, enjoy the local food and exciting nightlife.

Day 11Sacred Valley Tour

After your breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco by our representative. You will be taken along a road that winds over the mountains north of Cusco. On the way you will stop at a point known as El Mirador, from where we will be able to see the whole of the Sacred Valley and listen to the history of the Incas.

Later in the day, you will go towards Pisac, where we will visit the Pisac Archaeological Park. Here there are many different buildings, plazas, temples, pools and other structures, all built between the 10th and 11th centuries AD. After we will visit a peculiar market in Pisac. Here, you will have the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of fine crafts of various kinds, for example, ponchos, blankets, vases, hats and much more. You will have free time to walk around and do some shopping. Afterwards you will be taken to have lunch in a nice local restaurant to enjoy some great Andean food.

After lunch you will continue the tour and be driven along the Urubamba River towards the town of Ollantaytambo. Here you will visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo, an important Inca construction built during the Inca’s most powerful times.

After the tour you will take the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes (Optional upgrade: Vistadome or Hiram Bingham train).

On arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

Day 12Machu Picchu Tour

After breakfast, you will take one of the buses up the steep mountain to the famous town of Machu Picchu, also known as, the Lost City of the Incas.

You will be taken on an official tour of Machu Picchu to see the most important parts of the Inca city. (Optional: hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. This will allow you to have more time in Machu Picchu).

Machu Picchu is a magical, mysterious place that for nearly a century has intrigued archaeologists and visitors alike. Perched atop a steep, emerald green peak 8,000 feet high in the Andes in southern Peru, it is reachable only by a long road that zigzags up the slope from the roaring Urubamba river, or alternatively, by hiking for days along the challenging Inca Trail. Visitors to Machu Picchu will see well-preserved ruins hidden among the majestic Andes: palaces, baths, temples, tombs, sundials and farming terraces, along with llamas that roam among hundreds of gray granite houses.

Lunch is included in Aguas Calientes (Optional upgrade: lunch in the luxury Belmond Sanctuary Lodge located just outside of Machu Picchu).

In the late afternoon, you will return to Cusco on the Expedition train (Optional upgrade: Vistadome or Hiram Bingham train).. On arrival to Cusco, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

Day 13Amazon Rainforest Tour - 4 Days

In the morning you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight to Puerto Maldonado.

On your arrival to Padre Almirez International airport our professional guide will await you. He will accompany you throughout your stay. From there we will go to our office to obtain the official waterway permits (you can also store any luggage that you won’t need during your stay). Meanwhile you can visit the town’s main square and also take some photos of the beautiful scenery overlooking the confluence of the rivers Madre de Dios and Tambopata from Grau square. Embarkation will be at Capitania port, the destination being our lodge. You will navigate approximately 40 minutes on the Madre de Dios River in a typical Amazonian boat.

Arrival at the Corto Maltes Amazonia Lodge where there will be welcome cocktail waiting for you. Afterwards you will be handed over the keys to your bungalow and you can have some lunch. The kitchen of the Lodge stands out for the beautiful presentation and the exquisite tastes of the dishes prepared by the talented French chef. After that you will have some free time to get comfortable in your bungalow, or take a refreshing dip in the lovely swimming pool.

In the afternoon it will be time to have your first contact with the jungle. On this trek you will see a large variety of tropical trees, medicinal plants, insects, butterflies and other animals. Upon return we will make a small stop at a lookout. Here you can observe toucans, macaws and other species of birds upon your return for sunset. (Duration: between 2,5 and 3 hours). Returning to the lodge you can take a refreshing dip in the pool or have an exotic cocktail in the terrace-bar. You could also watch the sunset in the relaxing, tranquility of palm and mango trees by the port.

Before dinner we will go on a night boat trip and a little safari trying to spot the white caiman (caiman crocodiles) that live in the river banks.

After the delicious dinner, those who wish can converse and make friends with other travelers in the bar. Another option is to take a dip in the swimming

pool (with bar) under the shining Amazon sky and marvel at the Cross of the South.

Day 14Amazon Rainforest Tour - 4 Days

You will have a very early start today and begin with a short trek of about 20 minutes, where you will arrive at the Parrot Clay Lick. There are at least five different species of parrots that all feed on a special clay, which is vital to their metabolism. It’s a truly marvelous and multicolored spectacle.

After some breakfast, you will have some free time to explore the beautiful gardens of the Corto Maltes Amazonia where there are dozens of varieties of exotic plants and flowering trees.

In mid-morning you will be taken by boat down the Madre de Dios River. This time, the destination is Monkey Island, where you will see a number of species of monkey live in freedom. Following another boat ride of about 30 minutes, you will enter the territory of the Tambopata Candamo National Reserve. Here you will trek 5km through the dense vegetation of the tropical rainforest. Giant trees, snakes, monkeys, birds and sometimes even the illusive jaguar can be observed here.

The final destination is the heavenly Sandoval Lake. Its privileged settings are shared by numerous species of animals; birds (in particular Hoatzins, Kingfisher, and Cormorants), different species of monkeys (Squirrel monkeys, Howler monkeys, Capuchin monkeys). At the lake itself you will be able to enjoy the spectacle of Giant River Otters, Black Caimans and Piranhas. If you are lucky, then you will also see Anacondas in the reeds. This area is also the habitat of the giant Arapaima, a fish of more than 2,5 meters, weighing in at 200+ kilos. Traveling by canoe, the sunset at the lake is an unforgettable sight. On your return to the river you might be able to spot some nocturnal animals.

After the long day in the Jungle, your body will need a well-deserved rest. Back at the lodge you can enjoy the exotic meals on offer. If you still have energy left you can share moments of music and conversation in the bar whilst having a cocktail or enjoy the sounds of the rainforest surrounding you from the comfort of your hammock. You can also help your body recover with a relaxing massage from one of the lodge’s qualified masseurs.

Day 15Amazon Rainforest Tour - 4 Days

After breakfast you will have some free time to spend as you please, after which you will hop on a boat and cruise down the Amazon River for approximately 1,5 hours where you will arrive to a native community. Occasionally you will see monkeys, river turtles, caimans and various birds in the dense vegetation of the riverbanks. You will also see some medicinal plants, for example, Sangre de Grado, Oje and Capirona.

The “Project for the Rescue of Cultural Values” supports the local native community “Palma Real”. It is the biggest community with approximately 200 families of the Ese’eja tribe. This project, located on Gamitada Island, works together with two families that will introduce you to the cultural values of their ancestors, language, customs, garments and their dances. In an era where globalization rapidly changes traditional societies, this is a great opportunity to have direct contact with this tribe of ancient warriors and hunters. It also gives you a chance to support them economically by purchasing of some of their handmade products.

In the afternoon, you will be able to explore Gamatida Island. Afterwards you will visit a chakra (local term for farm). You will get to know a variety of tropical fruits and other local products, like cocoa, bananas, café and cocona. Here you will also have some typical Amazonial food for lunch.

The chacarero (farmer) will let you taste some of the fruits that will later be taken to the city of Puerto Maldonado to be sold.

You will be taken back to the lodge where you will have dinner in the evening.

Day 16Amazon Rainforest Tour - 4 Days

Wake up at 5:30 am for some coffee or tea before leaving for a 20-minute walk to the clay lick, where you will have the possibility to observe 3 to 5 types of parrots.

The parrots come to the clay lick to ingest a particular kind of clay, only found in certain areas of this region. The clay is vital for the metabolic regulation of the birds, and therefore is host to a colorful and veritably delightful and exciting event. After, we will return to the lodge to have breakfast.

After breakfast, we will return to the city of Puerto Maldonado by boat.

One of our vehicles will receive you at the port. After a short stop at our office, we will drive to the local market where the local population supplies itself with foods and other products. During a short visit of around 20-minutes, you will be able to appreciate the different typical products of the area.

We will then head to the airport and you will take your flight to Lima.
